Pre-Columbian Diquís Stone Spheres & Mangrove Tour
Connect Costa Rica’s greatest ecological wetland with the enigmatic UNESCO World Heritage Diquís archaeological site
Tour Overview & The Experience
This tour connects the two greatest treasures of southern Costa Rica: its wild ecological heart and its profound ancestral past. Created by the pre-Columbian Diquís civilization between 300 AD and 1500 AD, the mysterious spherical stones of the Diquís Delta are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your morning starts with a scenic wildlife boat tour through the virgin mangrove channels of Térraba-Sierpe, spotting crocodiles, toucans, and monkeys. Next, you travel to the nearby Finca 6 Archaeological Museum—the only protected site where original stone spheres remain in their precise historical alignments.
Accompanied by an expert cultural guide, you will wander through the interpretation museum and open-air archaeological trails, learning how these near-perfect spheres were sculpted from massive gabro boulders without iron tools and exploring the theories surrounding their ceremonial, political, and astronomical significance.
